4 Eye-Opening Truths from the First Three Chapters of Genesis

5 min read

Reading Genesis 1-3 again hit me different this time. It’s wild how you can read something for years and still catch new details you never noticed before.

Here are four things that stood out to me—and why they still matter today.

 1. Adam Was Right There All Along

For some reason, I always pictured Eve being alone when she got deceived. Like, she ate the fruit first, then ran off to find Adam and convinced him to eat too.

But that’s not what the Bible says.

“…She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” (Genesis 3:6)

👀 Wait… what?

Adam wasn’t off somewhere else—he was right there the whole time. Watching. Silent. Not stepping in.

This hit me because passivity is just as dangerous as rebellion. Adam didn’t get deceived like Eve did, but he also didn’t lead, didn’t correct, didn’t protect.

And that’s how a lot of people fall today—not by making an outright bad decision, but by standing by and doing nothing when they should step up.

2. God Was Walking

“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…” (Genesis 3:8)

This verse blew my mind.

God was just walking. In the garden. Enjoying creation.

I don’t know why, but that visual is powerful. It reminds me of how I feel when I walk through an arboretum or a national park—just in awe of the beauty around me.

Now imagine how insane Eden must’ve been. No death, no decay, no corruption—just raw, untouched beauty.

God designed this world for relationship, peace, and enjoyment. And even after sin entered the world, He’s been working to bring us back to that level of closeness with Him.

3. Animals Only Ate Plants

“…And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals…” (Genesis 1:30)

Yo. Lions were originally vegetarians.

That alone is crazy to think about. But deeper than that, this tells us that death wasn’t part of the original design.

Everything—humans and animals—were sustained by plants. Nothing had to die for something else to live.

That changed after sin entered the world. Suddenly, sacrifice became necessary. First, an animal died so God could clothe Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). Then, sacrifices became part of worship in the Old Testament. And ultimately, Jesus became the final sacrifice so we could be restored to that original peace.

From Eden to the Cross, God’s been working to undo the effects of sin and bring us back to full life.

4. Sin ALWAYS Looks Delicious

This one hit hard.

Genesis 3:6 says the fruit was:
✔️ Good for food
✔️ Pleasing to the eye
✔️ Desirable for wisdom

It looked good. It seemed beneficial. It promised something more.

But in reality? It led to separation, shame, and suffering.

Sin always looks appealing. It’s designed to. That’s why Jesus said:

“…wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.” (Matthew 7:13)

The easy path looks good, feels good, tastes good—but leads to destruction.

Ye said it best on Graduation:

“Why everything that’s supposed to be bad make me feel so good?”

It’s because our eyes tell lies.

This is why faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17). You can’t trust what you see—you have to trust what God said.

Final Thoughts

The first three chapters of the Bible set up everything:

✅ The original design (peace, purpose, and relationship with God).
✅ The effects of sin (shame, separation, and struggle).
✅ The foreshadowing of redemption (sacrifice will be needed to restore what was lost).

And if we really pay attention, we’ll see how these same patterns play out in our own lives today.

The good news? God’s plan has never changed. He’s still calling us back to relationship, purpose, and life.

Take five minutes to reflect: Where have you been passive when you should be active? What’s one step you can take today to lead, protect, or stand firm in an area of your life?

That’s it for today
